Core Advantages and Applications of Motors for DC Fan Coils

It must be interlocked with the fan coil unit controller and the central air-conditioning host: when the room thermostat detects a temperature deviation, it automatically sends speed-control commands to achieve on-demand cooling/heating; it also supports remote monitoring by the Building Management System (BMS) of motor speed, operating status, and fault alarms.
Core Advantages
High energy efficiency
DC motors generally achieve energy efficiency ratings of IE4 or higher. Compared with conventional AC induction motors (IE2/IE3), they can reduce energy consumption by 20% to 40% at the same airflow, thereby meeting policy requirements for building energy efficiency and carbon neutrality.
Wide-range stepless speed regulation
Stepless speed control from 50 to 1,500 rpm can be achieved via 0–10 V, PWM, or communication protocols such as Modbus and BACnet, enabling precise matching of indoor load variations, eliminating the abrupt airflow fluctuations associated with stepped-speed control in AC motors, and enhancing temperature-control accuracy and comfort.
Low noise, low vibration
The brushless design eliminates brush friction noise, while the rotor boasts high dynamic balancing accuracy, resulting in vibration amplitudes typically below 0.1 mm/s during operation. The overall machine noise can be controlled within 25–35 dB(A), making it ideal for quiet-operation applications such as hotels, hospitals, and office buildings.
Long service life
With no brush wear, the bearings feature a maintenance-free sealed design, delivering a service life of 30,000 to 50,000 hours under normal operating conditions—two to three times that of conventional AC motors—thereby significantly reducing long-term maintenance costs.
Application Scenarios and Adaptation Requirements
Compatible fan coil unit type
Our comprehensive range of fan coil units includes horizontal concealed-installation models, vertical exposed-installation models, and cassette-type four-way airflow units, making them particularly well-suited for high-end buildings with stringent energy-efficiency and noise-reduction requirements—such as five-star hotels, precision laboratories, and Class-A office towers.
System Integration Requirements
It must be interlocked with the fan coil unit controller and the central air-conditioning host: when the room thermostat detects a temperature deviation, it automatically sends speed-control commands to achieve on-demand cooling/heating; it also supports remote monitoring by the Building Management System (BMS) of motor speed, operating status, and fault alarms.
Common Faults and Maintenance Essentials
Common Faults
Drive failure: mostly caused by voltage fluctuations or component aging, manifested as the motor not rotating or losing speed control; it is necessary to check the drive’s input Vm and signal communication.
Abnormal bearing noise: After prolonged operation, the grease may dry out; replenish with specialized bearing grease or replace the bearing directly.
Hall sensor failure: For sensorless models, the issue can be compensated for via software algorithms; for models equipped with a Hall sensor, the sensor module must be replaced.
